Hollywood Cemetery Richmond, Va.

Situated high above the James River, Hollywood Cemetery was a popular picnic spot known as Harvie Woods before it became one of the most historic cemeteries in  the country. In 1846 it was set aside to create a rural cemetery and little did they know that within 20 years it would be used extensively for Civil War burials.

Presidents Circle is a must visit with the graves of James Monroe, John Tyler and Jefferson Davis.

There are also the graves of 28 Confederate Generals including my favorite JEB Stuart.

Quebec City the Paris of the North

One of the many amazing buildings in the lower city near the port.
One of our favorite places to visit in the world is Quebec City. Not only is it cosmopolitan, but architecture is also unique and the feeling is very European. I love it because it is in my blood and my DNA but you don't need to be French Canadian to find it a place you will want to return to again and again.

Don't read if you're hungry

I hate to admit how often we dine out, but it is often. I have been taking food pictures for as long as I can remember. I do write a considerable number of restaurant reviews and food recipe articles but I have thousands of pictures of delicious food from around the world, around the country, around the state and around Portland.

I don't want to turn this into a food blog but I thought I would share just a few photos every so often just for my own entertainment and hopefully yours.

The pics here are from a small restaurant in Appomattox, Va. We stayed in Appomattox in January 2014 and went into downtown to eat dinner. The name of the restaurant is Granny Bee's and it is a warm and comforting as a southern restaurant can be. We all enjoyed our food and here is some of what we had. All of my friends are well trained not to start eating until I have taken pictures.

Welcome to Lake Spangenberg

19 years ago we made a momentous decision. We decided to invest in a vacation home. Our daughter Kasey and son-in-law John joined us on the adventure and we bought the lake house on Lake Spangenberg. Lake Spangenberg is located in the town of Mount Cobb which if you have ever taken I-84 to its end, is the last exit before I81.

Lakes in this area of the North Poconos are man-made. This lake is small and allows only electric motors to be used making it a quiet area. We have wonderful neighbors and have come to really love the area. Welcome to our little piece of paradise.

Peaceful view from our back yard

Did I forget to mention the good fishing?
