A photo tour of the Rollright Stones

The Rollright Stones are a located on a hilltop on the border of Warwickshire and Oxfordshire. They are not as magnificent as Stonehenge but every bit as historic and a lot less crowded. They consist of:

~The Kings Men is a circle of about 70 odd stones that dates from about 2500 B.C.

~The King Stone is over eight feet tall and has stood on this hilltop since 1800 B.C.

~The Whispering Knights are perhaps as much as a 1000 years older than The Kings Men.

The home of the Duke of Rutland is open to the public. Belvoir Castle (pronounced Beaver) is still a family home and while it is quite magnificent it feels real. We were sitting outside and the family dog came and visited with us. We also ate in the tea room and it was really very good.

A pictoral View of Andersonville Prisoner of War Camp

For about a year, from 1864-65 Andersonville held Union soldiers captured during the Civil War. It was deep in the state of Georgia in the middle of nowhere. Today, it has the National Prisoner of War Museum as well as a reconstruction of the gates of the infamous prison.

Presidential Sites: Jimmy Carter Historic Site Plains, Georgia

On Sunday, April 15, 2018,  we stopped in Plains, Ga. to visit the Jimmy Carter Historic Site. You can visit several different sites in town including the High School which has the museum and visitor center.  I need to warn you the Plains, is not near anything, it was over 60 miles off of I85 and the road to get there has to be one of the most boring roads we have ever driven on. Having said that, do it anyway, it is so worth it.

At the high school, the National Park Department suggested that we go to the farm first since our time was very limited and I am glad they would, it was wonderful.
